Endocrine System and Cannabinoids

Let’s talk about the Endocrine system and what it does for you and why CBD plays an integral part in keeping you healthy.

The endocrine system is the collection of glands that produce hormones that regulate metabolism, growth and development, tissue function, sexual function, reproduction, sleep, and mood, among other things (Zimmerman, 2018). Basically, the glands that control the functions of your body, super important!

So why would cannabinoids work with this system? O I am so glad you asked!!! Cannabinoids may have the potential to regulate the endocrine system and assist with cases of certain endocrine disorders. These compounds may be effective in treating endocrine disorders caused by the presence of tumours on certain endocrine glands. A 2008 paper published within the journal Endocrine-Related Cancer states that endocannabinoids are able to inhibit cell growth, invasion, and metastasis of thyroid, breast, and prostate tumors. Cannabinoids such as THC also activate the same receptors due in large part that their molecular is very similar in molecular structure, they may be able to achieve similar effects (Royal Queens Seeds, 2018). Research has also shown the presence of cannabinoid receptors on nerves involved in the regulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis. This region controls the production of hormones via the thyroid gland, suggesting that endocannabinoids and cannabinoids may have influence over hormone production. Research in this area is extremely preliminary, but it signals that cannabinoids may be able to influence the endocrine system.

What does this all mean!? The receptors work together much like a lock and key, fitting just right as opposed to synthetic processed over the counter drugs.
